Daniel was born in England into an acting family, son of John Abineri and Hilary Bamford, brother to Sebastian Abineri. He developed a love of 30s and 40s music when he was 3 after his father brought home an old gramaphone and 78's. Leaving shcool at 16, Daniel bypassed drama school and went straight into repertory theatre as an assistant stage-manager. After two years of learning most aspects of theatre, he moved to London to continue his career as an actor.

          In 1977 he landed the lead role in a new Christopher Fry play for television called The Best of Enemies. This led to other TV roles including Pinero's The School Mistress, and Consequences. Other television work includes Secret Army, Spring and Autumn, King Cinder, Together, and Father Neil opposite the late Arthur Lowe in the comedy series Bless My Father.

          His theatre work includes The Winslow Boy, Under Milkwood, Simon Gray's Spoiled, Peter Pan and Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show on the first British tour and for a year at the Comedy Theatre in the West End.

          He also played Alan Wilson in International Velvet for MGM and John Cleese's son in one of his famous training films.

          Daniel came to Australia in 1981 with his wife and two daughters where he was asked to play Frank-N-Furter in the record-breaking and back-breaking fifteen month tour of The Rocky Horror Show. Following that he played 'Gary Lejeune' in the national tour of Noises Off, then filmed the rock 'n Roll series for the ABC, Sweet and Sour.

The Rocky Horror Show was Danial's directorial debut. In 1987 he discovered actor Russell Crowe when he gave him his first acting role in the New Zealand tour of The Rocky Horror Show. Abineri later awarded Crowe the lead in his very first musical, 'Bad Boy Johnny and the Prophets of Doom'.

Daniel is married to Claudia Rosencrantz, controller of entertainment for Britain's ITV, and co-creator of British TV hits like 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?', I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here, and Pop Idol
